About Us

What is Home Schooling?
A form of education whereby parents take direct responsibility for the educating of their children utilizing the advantages of the tutorial relationship to obtain optimum results in academics and character training.

Who We Are:
Formed in 1996, HOME EDUCATORS OF NEW BRUNSWICK (HENB) is a Christian organization made up of volunteers who desire to serve home educators and local support groups in New Brunswick, regardless of religious affiliation, by providing information, resources, and encouragement to home school families. HENB provides information and research to government officials; as well as working closely with Home School Legal Defence Association on issues pertaining to home schooling in New Brunswick. As well as publishing a newsletter 3 times per year, providing video presentations, printed resources and a web site (www.henb.org), HENB also organizes an Annual Home School Conference. HENB has also provided special workshops and leadership symposiums.

Home Educator's of New Brunswick is:
• A Christian organization made up of volunteers with a desire to serve all Home Schoolers and Local Home School Support Groups in New Brunswick.

• Registered as a non-profit organization. Our only sources of funding are the annual membership fees ($20.00 per family), donations from interested individuals, and an annual spring conference. As a non-profit organization, we are free to lobby the government to protect home school freedoms.

Our Annual Conference:
Home Educators of New Brunswick provides an annual home school conference where New Brunswick home schooling families can be inspired by home school leaders from New Brunswick and across North America. Check the conference page for information concerning this valuable service.

Our Publication:
Homeward Bound is a Christian newsletter for home schoolers that is sent via email to HENB Members 3 times per year.  Its purpose is to provide information, inspiration and support to home educators. For more information on receiving this newsletter contact info@henb.org.
Co-Editors - Jodie Grondin & Betty Lou Ferris.

Our Website:
HENB maintains a web site for the purpose of providing helpful information for home schoolers. In addition to information about HENB and our current annual conference plans, the web sites provides answers to common questions about home schooling and links to legal information and other helpful organizations.

Our Membership:
Membership with HENB is an acknowledgement of a common goal and purpose in promoting quality home schooling in New Brunswick. Membership is not an endorsement of any particular home schooling family or their program.

Annual membership with HENB is $20.00 per family. The annual membership year runs from September 1 through August 31.

Membership helps HENB represent and encourage Home Schoolers in New Brunswick and net work with Home Schoolers across Canada.

An HENB membership provides you with three issues of "Homeward Bound" per year, gives you a discount at HENB's Annual Home School Conference and allows you the right to vote at HENB Annual Meeting. It also makes you eligible for $24.00 discount on your annual membership with Home School Legal Defense Association of Canada.

Our Board of Directors:
Our Board of Directors is made up of individuals who volunteer their time to help promote home schooling and who, with the help of Home School Legal Defence Association of Canada, protect the freedom to home school throughout New Brunswick. Board directors are elected by the membership to terms of two years and are able to be re-elected at the end of their current terms.

Since 2001, members of the Home Educators of New Brunswick board of directors have represented home schoolers in New Brunswick at annual National Home School Leadership Conferences which have been sponsored by Home School Legal Defence of Canada and the Canadian Centre for Home Education. At these conferences they have shared ideas and networked with home school leaders from across Canada and North America.
